One Room Challenge: Week 6 -Seeing the Light at the End of the Tunnel

I know, it’s been a while since I’ve sent out an update on where we are with our One Room Challenge. Well, I blinked and next thing I knew we were already at week 6!

So, what have you missed…

In week 4, we did all the pre work for the walls. This was a lot more work than I imagined, I mean the amount of times we had to apply, dry, sand, apply, dry and sand; it just kept going! As I mentioned, in the week 1 when we purchased our home 2 years ago it looked as if we step back in time to the 70s. The wallpaper that was on the walls was glued down so aggressively that when we peeled it off the walls it damaged the drywall. Our week 4, was smoothing out all the walls to get it ready for the new and improved wallpaper that will be going up.

In week 5, we focused on getting the flooring and shower ready for new tile. This meant doing some more research and watching a few more YouTube videos on what to do. After watching and rewatching the best methods I finally felt ready to take the leap and start the prep work. Something I was not prepared for was the smell that came from the red guard for the waterproofing of the tile prep. Note to self, make sure the next time the area is well vented. I think I hit the Home Depot record with 5 visits in one day between getting the correct size Cement Board, the correct mortar for floors and then shower wall because apparently you can’t use the same one.

So that bring us to Week 6! Week 6, has been dare I say, smooth sailing… We have completed the tile work that was left over from Week 5 and I have begun painting the wall board that will go below the wallpaper. Oh, we got the wallpaper delivered and I could not be more excited to install it. It’s this beautiful green color with the most delicate flower pattern on it. I’m debating if I should show you guys a preview for it or keep it as a surprise. The rest of this week went into planning, making sure we will hit our deadline with the plumber and electrician. Ordering the last minute items that I may need, for example the shower curtain rod (I can’t believe I forgot about that lol). I also am looking for the perfect framed artwork. I haven’t quite found exactly what I am looking for. I am a little worried on meeting the week 8 deadline, I still need to get the countertops picked out and installed, the cabinets installed, the wallpaper and then the lighting. I have a feeling week 7 is a make it or break week for me. And here I thought I wasn’t a procrastinator!!

Hope you follow along for the next 2 weeks to see if I make it or not. I’ll be on pins and needles from now until the final reveal. If nothing else, it’ll be fun!
